Oborevwori donates 5 operational vehicles to Nigerian Correctional Service
Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta on Wednesday donated five operational vehicles, known as “Green Marias” to the Nigerian Correctional Service(NCoS).
The governor, represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, made the presentation at Government House, Asaba.
Oborevwori said the donation reflected his administration’s commitment to strengthening the justice system and improving security in the state.
He said that efficient correctional services depended on reliable logistics and mobility, adding that the vehicles would improve officers’ daily operations, response capacity, supervision, coordination and overall service delivery.
According to him, providing the Service with the necessary operational tools will strengthen justice administration and public safety.
The governor reaffirmed government’s commitment to collaborating with security and justice institutions to build a safer and more secure state.
He said the donation demonstrated his administration’s resolve to strengthen institutions responsible for maintaining peace, security and the rule of law.
He said though the Nigerian Correctional Service, a federal institution, its responsibilities directly affect the safety and well-being of residents.
The governor said the donation aligned with the fourth pillar of the M.O.R.E Agenda, which stands for Enhanced Peace and Security.
He assured that the government would continue to support and partner with federal security agencies to ensure and strengthen the existing peace and security in the state.
According to him, lasting peace and security remain essential for sustainable development and shared prosperity.
The governor urged the State Controller of Corrections to maintain the vehicles properly and deploy them for official use.
Receiving the vehicles, the Controller-General of NCoS, Mr Sylvester Nwakuche, represented by the State Controller of Corrections, Mr Chuke Idoko, thanked the governor for the donation.
Nwakuche assured that the vehicles would be properly utilised and maintained to achieve intended purpose.
The event was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, commissioners, and other senior government officials.
