Obasa backs Hamzat’s candidacy for Lagos guber

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has backed the candidacy of Lagos Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Speaking when Hamzat paid the Speaker a visit, Obasa emphasized that the decision follows extensive consultations with the party’s national leadership and the President.
The Speaker noted that his stance is a reflection of a unified front within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, specifically addressing the political structure in Agege.
Obasa highlighted that his position was informed by a message from the party’s father and mentor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He clarified that recent deliberations in Abuja have solidified the path forward for the state’s political future.
“The same message was also put to me as well, and we had a conversation over it likewise some people. I just came back from Abuja yesterday and it’s still the same and nothing has changed.”
“And that is why we are here to support the position of our father and leader in the interest of our incoming, Insha Allah,” Obasa stated.
The Speaker underscored that the move toward a consensus is not merely a directive but the result of active engagement within the party’s grassroots.
He stressed that the Agege political block remains inseparable from the broader party decisions.
“The most important thing when it comes to election, and particularly about showing uncover state of mind, is to interact. And that is why we are here. Through interaction, we know the direction to go and what steps to be taken,” the Speaker noted.
Addressing rumors of internal friction, Obasa maintained that the leadership in Agege remains cohesive.
He reiterated that all major political appointments and decisions in the region are products of collective agreement.
“We in this Agege, with support of Almighty Allah, this is Agege and there’s no other Agege anywhere. As they have said, our leaders have said, we work together, we decide together, we take decisions together… There is no one in any position in Agege that we did not come together and say yes,” he concluded.
