The Governing Board of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council has commended APM Terminals Apapa for maintaining high operational standards, describing the facility as a benchmark for efficient port operations in Nigeria.
The commendation came during a familiarisation visit by the Council’s board to the Apapa terminal, where members assessed operational processes and engaged with management on performance and regulatory expectations.
Chairman of the NSC Board, Ibrahim Shehu Shema, said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen oversight and collaboration within the maritime sector.
He reaffirmed the Council’s statutory mandate as Nigeria’s port economic regulator, stressing that improved synergy among stakeholders is key to achieving efficiency and global competitiveness.
According to him, terminals such as APM Terminals Apapa play a critical role in shaping industry standards, particularly in areas of cargo handling, turnaround time, and service delivery.
Management of APM Terminals Apapa highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, digital solutions, and operational processes aimed at improving productivity and reducing bottlenecks within the port.
The terminal operator also reiterated its commitment to aligning with regulatory frameworks while enhancing customer experience and supporting Nigeria’s trade facilitation goals.
Industry observers note that Apapa port remains Nigeria’s busiest maritime hub, making operational efficiency at key terminals crucial to reducing congestion, lowering logistics costs, and improving overall supply chain performance.
The visit underscores renewed efforts by the NSC to deepen engagement with port operators as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s maritime sector and positioning it for increased regional and global trade competitiveness.
