NPA MD to lead dialogue on AI, Port security

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, is set to lead discussions on artificial intelligence and regional port security during the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) Board meeting in Lagos next week.
The gathering, scheduled for May 18–21 at Eko Hotel, will feature daily sessions starting at 10 am, bringing together President Bola Tinubu, Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, and PMAWCA Secretary General Jean Koffi.
This upcoming meeting builds on previous 2026 sessions that explored administrative, legal, and financial reforms, as well as the practical applications of AI in maritime operations.
The convening of the Board in Lagos further underscores the NPA’s central role in shaping continental maritime strategy and fostering regional integration.
Current priorities for the Board include ensuring the smooth navigation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), implementing rapid digital upgrades, and developing AI-fortified security systems.
The leaders are expected to address climate change threats that pose significant risks to port infrastructure and operational continuity.
Through Dr. Dantsoho’s consistent participation and leadership on the Board, the NPA continues to influence the West and Central African agenda.
