No going back on 5G network in Nigeria – NITDA

The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, has said there is no scientific evidence that the 5G network has any health risk.

Director General of NITDA, Mr Kashufu Inuwa Abdullahi disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Kano.

He said for Nigeria to succeed in digital technology, it must adopt the 5G network in the country.

“Before, there was a conspiracy theory that the 5G network has health effects, but there is no scientific evidence.

“Based on the scientific research, the frequency used in microwave, fridges, television and other electronics is more hazardous than the 5G network technology,” he stated.

Kashifu said the future was digital and for Nigeria to succeed in the 21st century, it must be digital.

“We have new emerging technologies coming up like self-driving cars, artificial intelligence and others, and these technologies are computers; they need a channel of communication, which is 5G network.

“The sooner we embrace it, the better for us, even if we don’t, others will take it,” he added.

He noted that the ICT was now contributing more than oil and gas to Nigeria’s economy.

“Before this administration, ICT was contributing less than 5% GDP, today ICT is contributing 17.93% GDP,” Kashifu stated.
