NNPP denied me fair hearing but I won’t challenge them in Court — Jibrin

Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, member of the House of Representatives for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has faulted the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for expelling him without what he described as fair hearing.

The Kano State chapter of the NNPP announced his expulsion on Saturday, citing alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of dues.

Reacting in a statement released over the weekend, Jibrin described the decision as both “a surprise and a rude shock.” He linked the action to an interview he granted days earlier, where he expressed dissenting opinions which, according to him, were consistent with the party’s guiding principles of open dialogue and tolerance of differing views.

He maintained that he stood by his remarks and insisted that the NNPP ought to have reflected on the issues he raised rather than punish him for them.

According to Jibrin, the process leading to his expulsion was fundamentally flawed. “No invitation was extended to me to defend or explain myself by any organ of the party,” he stated, alleging that the decision breached the principle of fair hearing. He went further to argue that even military regimes, known for their authoritarian tendencies, provide court martials to the accused.

Although he reiterated his desire to remain with the NNPP, the lawmaker acknowledged the party’s decision to push him out. He declared the expulsion “null and void” for lack of due process but added that he would “rather wish the party well and go in peace” than pursue a legal challenge. He also appealed to party leaders to avoid personal attacks as they part ways.

Addressing the allegation of unpaid dues, Jibrin said he had never refused to pay, requesting instead that the party issue him a proper invoice.

In a parting criticism of the leadership, he accused the NNPP of failing to recognise the political value of its members. “The party does not believe anybody has political value and falls short of treating people with the respect they deserve,” he said, adding that he would be “more than glad to invest it [his value] where it will be appreciated with dignity.”

He expressed gratitude to his supporters, encouraging them to join him on his “new journey,” while also wishing for cordial relations with those who choose to remain within the NNPP.

Jibrin concluded by saying he will “carefully weigh all the options” before making a decision on his next political platform.
