NNPC woos investors at Gastech, highlights opportunities in Nigeria’s energy sector

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) is making a strong pitch to international investors at the 2025 Gastech Exhibition & Conference taking place in Milan, Italy.

During an interview on NBC, NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, called on global financiers and industry leaders to seize the extensive opportunities available within Nigeria’s energy sector.

Ojulari commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating a more enabling investment climate, which he said has positioned Nigeria as one of Africa’s most attractive destinations for energy capital. He added that the current NNPC management is determined to meet its targets while delivering consistent value to shareholders.

According to him, Nigeria requires substantial investment to develop infrastructure that will enable the transportation sector to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). While some investors are already building gas-based industries such as petrochemical and methanol plants, Ojulari explained that far more activity is necessary to achieve the Federal Government’s vision.

Beyond the gas sector, Ojulari observed that Nigeria’s crude oil resources remain underutilised, pointing to more than 200 undeveloped oil fields that present opportunities for increased production beyond the present 1.7 million barrels per day.

He further drew attention to NNPC Ltd.’s sustainability agenda, which includes major investments in carbon capture initiatives and advanced technologies designed to improve efficiency and curb gas flaring, in line with the expectations of its international financing partners.

Ojulari also spoke on the progress of key projects, citing the advanced stage of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the steady development of the NLNG Train 7 Project as evidence of Nigeria’s commitment to long-term energy growth.

He concluded by explaining that Nigeria’s energy transition strategy is anchored on addressing energy poverty, stressing the need for extensive capital injection into gas for industrialisation and into Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to provide clean cooking fuel for millions of households across Africa that still lack access.

Gastech is regarded as one of the energy sector’s most influential gatherings, attracting more than 50,000 professionals and 1,000 exhibitors from over 150 countries to deliberate on the future of the global industry.
