NIS debunks claims of third-party involvement in passport payment process

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed recent false claims suggesting the involvement of third parties, including religious organizations, in its passport application and payment process.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Service reaffirmed that its passport application system remains secure, transparent, and accessible exclusively through its official portal.
The NIS noted that the portal is the only authorized platform for all passport applications and payments for Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora. It clarified that it has not partnered with, nor authorized, any religious body, private organization, or individual to act as an intermediary or receive payments on its behalf.
According to the Service, recent allegations claiming that a religious organization’s name appears in its payment process are entirely unfounded.
“A simple review of our authorized payment portal confirms the transparency and authenticity of our platform,” the statement noted, warning that any third-party payment links or platforms claiming to process applications are fraudulent.
The NIS disclosed that it has commenced investigations into the origin of these claims, describing them as the handiwork of individuals seeking to mislead the public or tarnish the agency’s reputation. Appropriate action will be taken against anyone found culpable.
The Service further stated that it strictly complies with government financial regulations and only works with licensed, accredited payment service providers clearly indicated on its official platform.
It also cautioned that payments made outside authorized channels are at the payer’s risk, adding that the Service will not be liable for any losses or inconveniences arising from such transactions. The NIS urged the public to remain vigilant, use only the official portal for all passport-related services, and avoid dealing with unauthorized agents.
