NIPR launches annual Price Awards to celebrate excellence in Public Relations

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has unveiled the Public Relations, Reputation, Ideas, Concepts and Excellence (PRICE) Awards, its new annual prize system designed to recognise and celebrate outstanding campaigns, practitioners and organisations shaping the public relations profession in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Dr Omoniyi Ibietan, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Committee for the NIPR Annual PRICE Awards and Prizes 2025, the Institute said the maiden edition will hold on Sunday, 7 December 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The statement reads in part: “The Awards will serve as the body’s premier system for the curation, recognition, exhibition and celebration of outstanding campaigns and accomplishments in the practice of public relations in Nigeria.
“We have been winning international awards and flying the Nigerian flag on the global stage. Now is the time for the best of us to be honoured right here at home and before the Nigerian people.
“We are challenging the Organising Committee to give Nigeria a world-class Public Relations awards system built on prestige, class and colour.
“The PRICE Awards will not only motivate professionals, practitioners and scholars, but will enhance Nigeria’s global competitiveness in the public relations ecosystem.”
According to the NIPR, the development of the PRICE Awards reached its peak in September when the Institute’s President and Chairman of Council, Dr Ike Neliaku, inaugurated the 12-member organising committee after the Council adopted the report of a technical team that initiated the concept.
While inaugurating the Committee, Dr Neliaku said members were selected based on their proven impact and achievements in the profession, noting that Nigeria deserves a home-grown, credible and globally comparable PR awards platform.
He charged the Committee to engage stakeholders, sponsors and partners to deliver “a world-class ceremony befitting the profession”.
Accepting the assignment on behalf of the Committee, its Chairman, Israel Jaiye Opayemi, a Fellow of the Institute and Managing Director/Chief Strategist of Chain Reactions Africa, pledged that the team would deliver an internationally benchmarked awards administration and ceremony.
He stressed that the awards would serve as an opportunity for Nigerian professionals—who have excelled on the global stage—“to be honoured at home”.
The Committee comprises notable PR professionals and scholars including Dr Mary Ikoku, Edemekong Uyoh, Adesola Oyawoye, Odoh Diego Okenyodo, Damilola Olujide, Beatrice Okpara, Prince MG Duku, Chief Patrick Ukah, Mrs Chidinma Awak (Secretary) and Kater Amos Foga (Assistant Secretary).
The PRICE Awards will recognise excellence across the entire spectrum of public relations and communications, with emphasis on strategy, creativity, innovation and measurable impact. It will also spotlight emerging talent, including students and young professionals, who will receive cash prizes and plaques.
Founded in 1963 and chartered in 1990, the NIPR remains the first national public relations organisation in the world to be chartered. Its enabling Act authorises it to register practitioners, set standards for knowledge acquisition and regulate the practice of public relations nationwide.
The Institute operates under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
The NIPR has become one of Nigeria’s most visible and influential professional bodies, known for flagship programmes such as the National Spokespersons Summit and the Nigeria Public Relations Week. It also drives the promotion of ethical communication and responsible PR practice across the country.
A major milestone for the Institute came in 2023 when it secured an official proclamation making public relations practice a designated cadre exclusively for certified professionals across Nigeria’s public service.
The NIPR is a leading member of the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and an influential member of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management.
The Institute recently won the bid to host the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) 2026 alongside the APRA Annual Conference, scheduled for 15–21 November 2026.
