The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Cooperation (TASAC) to deepen regional collaboration and advance Africa’s maritime sector.

The agreement was endorsed on the sidelines of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) General Assembly by NIMASA Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, and Tanzania’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the IMO, Dr. Devotha Edward Mandanda.

The meeting also included NIMASA’s Governing Board Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar, Executive Directors, and Nigeria’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the IMO, William Bwala.

The MoU commits both countries to enhancing maritime surveillance, developing seafarer capacity, strengthening cabotage administration, and expanding the use of digital information systems. It also establishes continuous knowledge-sharing initiatives to boost operational efficiency.

Speaking at the event, both sides described the MoU as a milestone for regional maritime cooperation. They expressed confidence that the partnership would improve maritime governance, enhance operational capacity, and foster resilient maritime institutions to support sustainable growth across Africa.

The agreement reflects Nigeria and Tanzania’s shared commitment to leveraging regional collaboration to strengthen the continent’s maritime infrastructure and workforce, while promoting safe and efficient shipping operations.
