Nigeria and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen defence cooperation and improve intelligence sharing between both countries.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Sunday, May 10, 2026, in Amman by Bello Muhammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, and Major General Yousef A. Alhnaity, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information on Thursday, the agreement is aimed at improving cooperation in areas such as intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism, joint military training, defence development, and research.
It also covers collaboration in defence industry development and support for peace and security efforts in both regions.
The ministry said the agreement is expected to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and Jordan and improve how both countries respond to modern security challenges.
Speaking after the signing, Matawalle said the partnership reflects the importance of working together to address security threats.
“Nigeria and Jordan recognise the value of mutually beneficial cooperation and remain committed to deepening defence ties to promote peace, security, and stability within our respective regions,” he said.
He also noted that part of the agreement includes plans for technology transfer, including the establishment of a production line in Nigeria under the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) framework.
The ministry said the agreement shows both countries’ commitment to closer cooperation and stronger trust in tackling shared security concerns.
