Nigeria aims to achieve a 30GW grid energy supply by 2030
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has announced Nigeria’s commitment to achieving universal energy access by 2060, with an interim goal of reaching 30GW of grid energy supply by 2030. This announcement was made in a statement released on the Ministry’s media platform on Thursday.
Addressing the China-Nigeria Economic Cooperation and Trade Conference in Beijing, Adelabu stated, “Nigeria is dedicated to securing universal energy access by 2060. Our short-term objective, as part of our Vision 30:30:30, is to achieve 30GW of grid energy supply by 2030, which includes a 30 percent renewable energy mix. This sets the foundation for our long-term goal of universal energy access.”
He highlighted that these targets provide a significant opportunity for deeper collaboration between the Chinese investment community and Nigeria to promote cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.
Adelabu noted that the Nigerian Federal Government has adopted a multi-faceted strategy to address challenges across the energy sector. This strategy includes reforming legislative and policy frameworks, mobilizing both public and private investments, embracing technological innovations, and building strategic partnerships.
He added, “This Nigeria-China Economic Forum is an excellent opportunity for us to solidify our existing collaborations and explore new avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.”
