NERC approves Adegbenro as Acting CEO of EKEDC amid leadership shuffle

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has officially approved the appointment of Ms. Sherifat Adegbenro as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).
Announced on Monday, the regulatory confirmation aligns with the Code of Corporate Governance for the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry and is intended to ensure leadership continuity until a substantive CEO is appointed.
Adegbenro succeeds Mr. Wola Joseph-Condotti, who exited the role after a brief tenure of less than three months following his appointment in January 2026.
This transition highlights an ongoing leadership carousel at EKEDC, marking the company's sixth CEO since its privatization in 2013.
Previous leaders include Oladele Amoda, Adeoye Fadeyibi, Tinuade Sanda, and Rekhiat Momoh. These frequent appointments and exits have often coincided with boardroom interventions and ownership shifts, most notably Transgrid Enerco's recent acquisition of a controlling stake from West Power & Gas Limited.
Before her elevation to the top seat, Adegbenro served as EKEDC's Deputy CEO and Chief Audit and Compliance Officer.
With over two decades of professional experience spanning audit, enterprise risk management, and business process optimization, she has been instrumental in leading audit engagements and implementing robust fraud management frameworks since joining the company in 2015.
As Adegbenro takes the helm, industry attention is shifting toward the company's strategy for stabilizing its operations amidst ongoing power sector reforms.
