NDLEA arrests 415 suspects, recovers 1.2 tonnes of drugs in Bauchi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bauchi State Command said it has arrested 415 suspects and seized 1.2 tonnes of various drugs between January and December 2024.

It said that the illicit drugs include; cannabis sativa (popularly known as wee-wee), diazepam, exol-5, pentazocine, methamphetamine, rohypnol and tramadol.

The State Commander of the Agency, Commander of Narcotics, Ali Aminu stated this in a press release on Tuesday. He explained that 70 cases were charged to court, 84 suspects have been prosecuted while 18 pending cases are still pending at the Federal High Court, Bauchi.

According to him, 137 drug users had been counselled and rehabilitated with the majority of them through brief interventions in NDLEA Custody in Bauchi.

Aminu warned the general public to desist from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. He warned that anyone arrested with hard drugs would be prosecuted.

He lauded the Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) for repositioning the Agency and bringing in a new zeal into the personnel to rededicate themselves to fighting the scourge of illicit drug abuse and trafficking.

He commended the State Governor, Bala Mohammed for his interest and provision of logistics support to the Command in eradicating illicit drug abuse and trafficking.
