NCDMB Boss urges WAV to expand into deepwater operations

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, has challenged West African Ventures (WAV) Nigeria Limited to expand its operations into the deepwater segment of the oil and gas industry.

During a recent facility tour of the company's fabrication yard and jetties at the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT), Onne, Ogbe noted that WAV and other established indigenous firms must pivot to the deepwater sector where significant opportunities are emerging.

Praising WAV's Capabilities and Track Record
Engr. Ogbe expressed his admiration for WAV's advanced capabilities, recalling a time when he awarded the company its first offshore pipe-laying contract while serving as Construction Manager at Chevron Nigeria Limited.

He stated that the project's execution was "very satisfactory."

During the tour, Ogbe praised the company's impressive facilities, including a 50mm rolling mill, a fleet of ocean-going vessels, and a 160-ton crane.

He emphasized that the oil and gas industry's "big players" are moving toward deepwater projects, and he is confident that Nigerian companies have what it takes to compete effectively through transparent and professional bidding processes.

Earlier, the Manager, Fabrication of West African Ventures, Mr. Michael Dumbi Amaeshike, expressed gratitude for the NCDMB's visit, highlighting the company's 40-year history as a service provider and its role in demonstrating local content capabilities.

He noted that many industry professionals in key sectors like maritime, engineering, and procurement are products of WAV's training.

The company's Fabrication Manager, Engr. Chimeziri Onwukwe, gave an overview of their operations, which include fabricating platforms, jackets, and other structures.

He also mentioned WAV's offshore base for logistics and marine activities. Despite their substantial investments and excellent track record, Onwukwe lamented low patronage and requested the NCDMB's support in promoting their capabilities within the industry.

The NCDMB delegation on the tour included several senior officials: Engr. Abayomi Bamidele (Director, Capacity Building), Mr. Ossaowa Andrew Uchendu (Acting Director, Finance and Personnel Management), Barr. Naboth Onyeso (Acting Director, Legal Services), Mr. Ene Ette (General Manager, Planning, Research and Statistics), and Mr. Suleiman Ozimede (General Manager, Facilities and Logistics).
