NCAA to train personnel on emotional intelligence

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Wednesday said it would train its personnel on emotional intelligence to equip them better to manage the public.

The Acting Director-General of NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the Global Transport Policy in Lagos.

Najomo was represented by the Lagos Regional Manager of NCAA, Mrs Bukola Teriba.

He emphasised that such a capacity  was also crucial for effective teamwork in the aviation industry.

 Najomo added that a good working relationship based on trust and collaboration was fundamental for smooth operations and for the safety of passengers.

He said that it would enable participants to develop competencies in areas of emotional intelligence in intrapersonal and interpersonal dimensions.

“With focus on emotional self-awareness and emotional self-regulation would give room for  empathy and assertion of one’s authority in a calm and professional manner.

“Emotional regulation in high pressure situations, assertiveness in conflict scenarios, and the ability to take another person’s perspective in negotiating for agreement, are important.

“The NCAA, as the apex regulatory body in the aviation sector, recognises the need to stay ahead in its role, and the training series are expected to play a crucial part in achieving this goal,” he said.

The Managing Director/Chief Consultant of Global Transport Policy, Dr Segun Musa, presented an award to the NCAA boss at the event in recognition of key reforms he had carried out since assumption of office.

He said that the training was part of Global Transport Policy’s corporate social responsibility initiative, demonstrating the firm’s commitment to giving back to the industry.
