N4.2bn earmarked for renovation of Deputy Governor office not furniture alone - LASG clarifies

The Lagos Government has clarified that the sum of ₦4.2 billion allocated to the Deputy Governor's office is meant for a comprehensive renovation of the Deputy Governor's office and not solely for furniture.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget yesterday, the government described the claims as a clear misinterpretation of the state’s approved capital provisions.
Officials noted that while the total capital allocation for the Deputy Governor’s office does indeed stand at approximately ₦4.25 billion, the vast majority of those funds are earmarked for critical infrastructure rather than luxury items.
According to the Ministry, the bulk of the expenditure totaling ₦4,077,816,006 is dedicated to the comprehensive reconstruction of the Round House complex.
This six-story facility houses over 50 offices and requires significant structural upgrades, retrofitting, and the installation of alternative energy infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency.
The government further clarified that the specific budget for office equipment, furniture, and other capital fittings is actually ₦170 million, a fraction of the figure originally circulated in public reports.
To foster public trust, the Ministry released screenshots of the official budget master sheet, highlighting the specific line items to provide a transparent view of the planned spending.
"The Government reiterates that budgetary provisions are guided by due process, fiscal discipline, and established accounting standards," the statement read, urging media organizations and stakeholders to verify information through official channels before publication.
The Ministry concluded by expressing regret over any misunderstanding caused by the budget's classification, reaffirming its commitment to the prudent management of public resources for the benefit of Lagosians.
