Mbah orders relocation of Coal Camp spare parts market

Governor of Enugu State, Mr Peter Mbah, has signed an Executive Order mandating the relocation of spare parts and allied trades markets from Coal Camp and other neighbourhoods within the Enugu Capital Territory to the newly designated International Spare Parts and Allied Trades Park.

The new market site spans Udi and Ezeagu Local Government Areas, along the Enugu-Onitsha Road.

The Executive Order, titled Designation and Establishment of the Enugu International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Traders Park, Nsude, Udi LGA, and Ogwofia Owa in Ezeagu LGA, and the Relocation of the Coal Camp Neighbourhood and Other Neighbourhoods in Enugu Capital Territory to the New Enugu International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Trades Park Site, formalises the transition.

Reacting to the announcement, President of the Enugu Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association, Chief Michael Nomeh, praised the governor for fulfilling a longstanding campaign promise, following years of unfulfilled pledges from previous administrations.

“We are thrilled about the relocation of the Enugu motor spare parts dealers to a permanent site, which meets international standards.”

“We appreciate the governor for honouring his campaign promise. Since the return of democracy in 1999, successive governments have assured us of this relocation, yet none delivered. Governor Mbah has done so in under two years in office. He is a leader who keeps his word,” Nomeh stated.

The Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, Dr Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, described both the relocation and the choice of the new site as strategic. He emphasised that traders would now be able to own their shops, unlike at Coal Camp, where most of them operated from rented spaces.

“The location is highly advantageous. Anyone travelling from the Middle Belt, South-South, Cross River, or even Cameroon to Onitsha must pass through the new site,” he noted.

The relocation marks a major infrastructural and economic shift for traders in Enugu State, ensuring a modern, organised, and business-friendly environment.
