Man kills younger brother in Kwara while testing anti-gunshot charm

A 12-year-old boy, Yusuf Abubakar, was shot to death on Sunday while testing a gunshot protective charm in Kaiama, Kwara North Senatorial District.

He was shot to death by his elder brother, Abubakar Abubakar, a hunter in Dutse Gogo via Kaiama, in the Kaiama Local Government Area of the state. Both are sons of one Abubakar Abubakar in the town.

Yusuf Abubakar reportedly died on the spot in the attempt to test the efficacy of a newly-procured gunshot protective charm.

Spokesman of the State Police command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement in Ilorin on Monday, disclosed that “at about 2200hrs, of 2/10/2022, a report was received at Kaiama police station about the killing of one Yusuf Abubakar ‘M’ aged 12 yrs, by his elder brother named Abubakar Abubakar both sons of one Abubakar Abubakar a hunter in Dutse Gogo town via Kaiama, during the process of testing the efficacy of newly procured gunshot protective charm.”

According to him, “the incident happened after fortifying themselves with the protective charm; the elder son brought his father’s dane gun and shot his younger sibling, but the charm failed, and the 12-year-old Yusuf Abubakar died on the spot.

“The culprit escaped into the bush immediately the act was committed.”

Okasanmi said an investigation into the matter has commenced as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, Paul Odama.

He advised parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and avoid doing certain unsavoury activities while their children and wards watch to prevent such incidents of this nature.
