Man docked over alleged theft of generator

A 25-year-old man, Peter John, on Thursday, was  docked before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over allegedly theft of generator.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 3, 2023 around 03:05am at Club 25, Opa area, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi stated that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit: Breaking, entering and stealing.

He adding that the defendant broke into the shop of one Alao Adebayo with intent to commit felony therein.

According to him, the defendant entered into the shop of one Adebayo and stole one Tiger Generator blue colour valued N40,000; armature cover and carburettor that worth N15,000, total valued N55,000.

The Prosecutor expressed that the offence contravened sections:383, 390(9) 411, 412 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2023.

The defendant, who was not legally represented however, pleaded not guilty to four-count charge of conspiracy, breaking, entering and stealing.

Magistrate O.T. Badmus granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like amount.

The Magistrate  adding that the surety must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction, address to be verified by the police.

He stated that the surety must provide photocopy of his identification Card.

Meanwhile, the Magistrate asked the defendant to be remanded in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Custody pending the perfection of his bail.

The case was adjourned until April 20, for hearing.
