Makinde approves reappointment of Adegbola as Eleruwa of Eruwa
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has authorised the reinstatement of Adebayo Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwa, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has announced.
Oyelade, in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday, recounted that Adegbola had originally been installed as Eleruwa in 1998 but was deposed on 29 November 2019 following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
A report from the state’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters indicated that the throne had remained vacant due to legal proceedings, including the dismissal of Suit Number HER/10/23 by the Oyo State High Court on 22 October.
Due to the legal challenges surrounding the succession process, the Laribikusi ruling family was unable to present candidates within the timeframe prescribed by Section 15(1) of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 of Oyo State.
As a result, the governor exercised his discretion to allow the Akalako ruling house to submit nominees for consideration.
Following a rigorous selection process, the Eruwa kingmakers convened and unanimously chose Adegbola from the Akalako ruling house to assume the throne.
