LASUED students gear up for global sports competitions
Students of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) are ready to take on the world in sports competitions, both locally and internationally.
This was the assurance given by the Director of Sports, Dr. Adeniyi Jimmy, during a games competition between the two campuses of the university on Monday.
According to Dr. Jimmy, LASUED has been exposing its students to various sports competitions, including the West Africa University Games, where three students won four medals.
He also mentioned that the university has registered students for the forthcoming FASU Games holding at Lagos State University and University of Lagos.
The competition, which featured games such as football, basketball, scramble, chess, volleyball, badminton, judo, and taekwondo, saw 118 students participating from the Epe Campus and 126 from the main campus, Ijanikin.
Dr. Jimmy commended the management for their support, which has motivated students to participate in sports. He also appealed for more support from governments, managements, and investors to provide sporting aids, funding, and infrastructure.
Deputy Director of Sport, Mrs. Yetunde Balogun, emphasised the importance of sporting activities in curbing vices and improving intellectual abilities and physical fitness.
Students who participated in the competition expressed their excitement and hope for future competitions.
Mr. Israel Olatunji, a first-year student, won four out of six games in chess, while Miss Dorcas Babalola, a second-year student, participated in table tennis, badminton, football, and javelin, and hoped to compete in bigger competitions in the future.
