Lagos State is poised to take a giant leap towards achieving electricity independence as it prepares to host its inaugural energy summit.

The summit, themed “Journey to Energy for All,” is scheduled to hold from April 15 to 18 and will bring together 150 energy experts to proffer solutions to the state’s electricity crisis.

According to the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Abiodun Ogunleye, the summit is a response to the executive order on electricity signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in December 2024 and the new federal government regulations allowing states to be energy independent.

“The summit aims to drive the adoption of innovative energy solutions, promote sustainable mineral resources development, power Lagos State’s socio-economic growth and development, and foster collaboration among stakeholders,” Ogunleye said.

The commissioner noted that the summit will focus on the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024 and will feature stakeholders in the energy sector, including energy professionals, government officials, policymakers, regulators, private sector investors, academia, and research institutions, as well as environmental organizations and advocacy groups.

Ogunleye emphasised the importance of regular electricity supply to Lagos, describing it as a megacity that deserves uninterrupted power to attract investors.

“The Lagos Energy Summit 2025 is not just about discussions, it is about action. We invite all stakeholders, local and international investors, energy developers, policymakers, and innovators to be part of this historic gathering,” he said.
