Lagos, MTN to set up technical committee for Yellow Obalende bus park project

Officials of the Lagos State Government and MTN Nigeria on Thursday agreed to establish a technical committee to fine-tune modalities for the smooth take-off of construction work on the proposed Yellow Obalende Bus Park.

The agreement was reached during a meeting held at Alausa following the presentation of the project concept and architectural drawings by MTN officials.

Speaking after the session, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, stressed the need for close collaboration among all relevant state agencies, the local government and MTN to ensure the objectives of the project are fully achieved.

Giwa noted that the Obalende Bus Park must be optimally utilised to accommodate all categories of commercial vehicles, adding that care must be taken to ensure that no stakeholders are displaced in the process.

He disclosed that the technical committee, comprising representatives of the involved agencies and MTN Nigeria, has been mandated to submit its findings within two weeks.

According to him, another meeting will be convened at the same venue at the end of the period to review the report and pave the way for MTN’s mobilisation to site.

The proposed project will cover the main bus park, a second bus terminal park, as well as supporting facilities including a loading bay and a park garden. Construction is expected to be completed within a 21-week timeline once work commences.

The meeting was attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu; the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, Engr. Mahamood Adegbite; Chairman of Obalende/Ikoyi Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Bola Oladunjoye; General Manager of the Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency (LASPARK), Mrs. Adetoun Popoola; as well as several heads of agencies and top officials of the Lagos State Government and MTN Nigeria.

The Yellow Obalende Bus Park project is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to improve public transportation infrastructure and enhance traffic management within the metropolis.
