The Lagos State Government joined the global community on Monday to celebrate the 2026 International Day of Education, centered on the theme “The Power of Youth in Co-creating Education.”

The event served as a showcase for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s ongoing commitment to sustainable educational reforms and the improvement of learning outcomes across the state’s public school system.

State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, detailed the administration's progress, emphasizing a focus on quality, accessibility, and inclusiveness.

He noted that the state’s priorities are strictly aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 and the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.

These programs involve a comprehensive investment in expanding access to education through the construction of ultra-modern classroom blocks and the rehabilitation of existing facilities.

Significant strides in digital literacy and financial support were also highlighted, including the expansion of the EKO EXCEL program and the full payment of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees for students.

The Commissioner further emphasized that the state has established frameworks to protect vulnerable groups, providing scholarships and upgraded infrastructure for inclusive schools. Safety remains a top priority, with the implementation of child protection policies and regular safety drills integrated into a unified academic calendar to ensure a secure learning environment for all.
