The Lagos State Government has provided fresh updates on the integration of the Red Line Rail with existing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, in a move aimed at improving connectivity and easing urban mobility across the state.
The administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the integration will enable seamless movement of commuters between rail and road transport systems, reducing travel time and congestion in key parts of the metropolis.
Officials explained that the Red Line, which runs from Agbado to Oyingbo, is being aligned with major BRT routes to create a unified transport network capable of handling the city’s growing population.
The project is part of broader efforts to modernise public transportation and provide efficient alternatives to private vehicle use, particularly in high-traffic corridors.
Government sources noted that infrastructure adjustments, including terminal linkages and ticketing coordination, are being finalised to ensure smooth interchange between the rail system and BRT services.
Analysts say the integration represents a significant milestone for the administration, which is entering the final phase of its tenure and seeking to consolidate key infrastructure achievements.
They add that improved mass transit connectivity could have lasting economic benefits, enhancing productivity and reducing the cost of commuting for residents.
The Red Line Rail project is one of several flagship initiatives under the state’s transport master plan, alongside ongoing investments in road expansion and water transport.
Observers note that the successful implementation of the integration could strengthen the administration’s legacy in urban transportation reform while setting the pace for future infrastructure development in the state.
