Lagos gov’t seals church, factory over noise, air pollution violations

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed several establishments in the Ifako-Ijaiye and Igando areas for persistent noise and air pollution offences.
The enforcement exercise, which took place on Monday, October 20, 2025, targeted premises that had repeatedly ignored previous warnings from the agency.
In a statement posted on its verified X account, LASEPA disclosed that the affected facilities included the Cherubim and Seraphim (King of Kings) Church in Georgius Cole Estate, Ifako-Ijaiye; a fufu-making shop cited for heat and air pollution; and Tyonex Nigeria Limited, located along LASU–Isheri Road, Igando, for creating environmental nuisance.
According to Mr Babatunde Ajayi, LASEPA said the operation was carried out to safeguard public health and restore environmental order across Lagos State.
Ajayi noted that the agency had received several complaints from residents over the activities of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, which continued despite repeated warnings.
He condemned the church’s illegal operation within a residential estate, stressing that the residents’ right to a peaceful environment must be protected.
“As much as there is freedom of worship in the State, no individual or association is allowed to infringe on the fundamental rights of others or impact negatively on the health of other neighbours in the name of religious activities,” Ajayi said.
LASEPA also reiterated its commitment to ensuring environmental compliance and warned that all offenders, regardless of status or ownership, would face strict enforcement actions.
Rexall that the Lagos State Government recently sealed the sewage and wastewater treatment facility of Yaba College of Technology for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into the environment.
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, under the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, carried out that enforcement after the institution ignored multiple warning letters.
