Lagos govt launches school monitoring to ensure academic compliance

The Lagos State Government has commenced an extensive monitoring exercise across schools below tertiary level, ensuring adherence to approved resumption dates and educational standards as the 2025/2026 academic session begins.
Adepeju Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that the inspection, which started Monday, is aimed at enforcing compliance with the Year 2025/2026 Harmonised Academic Calendar.
Remi Abdul, Coordinating Director of OEQA, led the monitoring team to several schools, including Dolphin Senior High School, Lagos Island, where he met Principal Comfort Agunlejika. Abdul stressed that the visit checked for pre-resumption meetings, proper lesson notes, diaries, and attendance registers to guarantee a smooth start to the term.
Addressing Senior Secondary School (SSS) 3 students, Abdul reminded them that performance this term would determine their readiness for higher education and WASSCE examinations.
“Read well, stay focused, avoid skipping classes, and begin early preparation for your WASSCE,” he advised. Teachers were also encouraged to maintain dedication and deliver quality education.
According to the harmonised calendar, the first half of the term runs from September 15 to October 31, 2025, and the second half from November 10 to December 19, 2025, with breaks and Open Days scheduled in between. The monitoring will continue across the state to ensure all schools meet the educational standards mandated by law.
