The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has strongly condemned the destructive notion that “education is a scam” and urged Nigerian youths to embrace education and technology as vital tools for securing their future.
He shared this message during a meeting with Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, and participants of the Lagos Boy Child Initiative at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday.
In his remarks, Dr. Hamzat emphasised that education remains a cornerstone of both personal and national development.
He advised youths to avoid seeking shortcuts to success and instead focus on acquiring valuable skills that can address societal needs.
“Education builds life and expands your thoughts; it is essential for growth,” he stated.
The Deputy Governor also spoke against the harmful impact of drug abuse, urging young people to maintain dignity in labor and use social media responsibly.
He encouraged the workshop participants to remain focused, avoid negative influences, and take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the Lagos Boy Child Initiative.
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who initiated the three-day workshop for 200 boys, underscored the significance of empowering the boy-child to become well-rounded individuals.
The workshop, which is the third edition of the initiative, aims to foster leadership qualities, promote educational opportunities, and provide mentorship.
Sanwo-Olu outlined the workshop’s key objectives, including teaching culinary skills, citizenship education, and environmental sustainability.
The workshop, which will be held at Agbowa, Ikorodu, includes panel discussions, educational tours, and training from experienced professionals. The initiative has already made a significant impact, having transformed the lives of 400 boys since its inception in 2022.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu called on the participants to fully utilise the opportunity to unlock their potential, paving the way for a future where they contribute positively to society.
