Lagos announces eight-month traffic diversion on Lekki–Ajah corridor

The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-month traffic diversion on the Lekki–Ajah corridor to allow for major road rehabilitation works aimed at improving traffic flow and road quality in the area.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the rehabilitation will begin on November 15, 2025, and is expected to be completed by July 15, 2026.

Osiyemi said the project would be executed in two phases to minimise inconvenience to road users, with preliminary works already underway.

He explained that Phase One, which covers the Lekki First Toll Gate to the Lekki Second Toll Gate, will be carried out in seven sections. During the construction, one lane will be closed to traffic while the other remains open to motorists.

“When the closed lane is completed, work will shift to the other lane. During this phase, motorists going towards Lekki and Ajah will have a through passage,” the Commissioner said.

He added that Phase Two of the project, covering Lekki Second Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge, will be executed in four sections.

“Motorists from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while repairs are ongoing on the other lane. When the first lane is completed, work will move to the second lane. During this phase, motorists heading towards Ajah will have continuous movement,” Osiyemi said.

The Commissioner appealed to motorists to be patient and comply with traffic management personnel during the rehabilitation, noting that some sections of the road would be partially closed.

He emphasised that the project forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance road infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion across the state.
