Kwara: NSCDC arrests three suspects for theft, burglary, others
The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three individuals involved in various criminal activities, including theft, burglary, and fraud. The arrests were announced in a statement by the command’s spokesman, Ayoola Michael Shola, on Tuesday.
On Monday, detectives from the command’s tracking unit arrested Ibrahim Wasiu, a 31-year-old resident of Eyenkorin, following a report by Mr. Mumini Kabir.
Kabir had reported multiple burglaries at his residence, resulting in the theft of valuable items such as a motorcycle, two Android phones, a home theatre system, and other household goods. After thorough investigations, Wasiu was apprehended and all stolen items were recovered.
In a separate incident on June 30, 2024, the tracking unit apprehended Soliu Jimoh, a 33-year-old male, based on a tip-off. Jimoh was arrested for the habitual theft of electrical cables and fittings from buildings under construction in the Gaa Ajanaki area of Ilorin. Wires and tools used for his operations were recovered at the time of his arrest.
Additionally, on June 28, 2024, Ganiyu Yusuf Olalekan, 38, was arrested for defrauding Mr. Ibrahim Mustapha of N4.5 million.
Olalekan, who falsely claimed to be a senior staff member of the Ministry of Finance and a politician, deceived Mustapha by promising three Hajj slots in exchange for the payment.
Investigations revealed that Olalekan is a scammer who deceives unsuspecting members of the public for financial gain.
All suspects have confessed to their crimes and will be prosecuted once investigations are complete, according to Shola.
The NSCDC Kwara State Commandant, Dr. Umar Mohammed, warned criminal elements to vacate the state, emphasising the corps’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for law-abiding citizens and making the state unsuitable for criminals.
