Kwara Gov't urges Youths to embrace skills, self-development

The Kwara State Government has charged the state's youth to develop practical skills, prioritize self-development, and utilize their education to expand family businesses and create innovative solutions to societal challenges.

Ambassador Ndanusa Usman Shehu, the Commissioner for Youth Development, delivered this message during a live radio programme titled "Enact Hour" monitored in Ilorin.

The Commissioner heavily emphasized the critical importance of family business continuity.

He urged parents to allow their children to be their first apprentices in any trade, skill, or business they are engaged in, stressing that such early mentorship is vital.

"Parents should let their children learn the ropes of their trade early. By doing this, they will not only preserve the family’s legacy but will also be equipped to introduce innovations into it when they apply the knowledge acquired from formal education," he stated.

Ambassador Shehu strongly advised the youth, particularly fresh graduates, against relying solely on the search for white-collar jobs.

He challenged them to look inward, identify their unique strengths, and channel their education into productive ventures that solve real-life problems.

"The era of waiting endlessly for government jobs is over. Our young people must think creatively, develop themselves, and be solution providers," he added.

The Commissioner further commended Engr. Nurudeen Balogun for his philanthropic support towards Muftau Mubarak Shittu, a University of Ilorin graduate with a first-class distinction.

He described the gesture as a necessary wake-up call for individuals and organizations to support young achievers and help them reach greater heights in their chosen fields.

The Commissioner reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to promoting youth empowerment and sustainable development across the State.

He assured that the government would continue to create accessible platforms that encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and meaningful youth participation in nation-building.
