The Kwara State Government has announced a comprehensive security operation in collaboration with the Nigerian Army to dismantle criminal gangs responsible for violent attacks and kidnappings in the Kwara North and South senatorial districts.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq revealed that the military would soon commence targeted raids on forested areas identified as hideouts for kidnappers and other armed groups, in a decisive move to restore peace and safeguard lives and property across affected communities.

Speaking at the weekend during a stakeholder meeting in the Lafiagi area of Kwara North, the governor assured residents that the government was fully committed to tackling the escalating security threats in the region.

The engagement, which included traditional rulers, community representatives, and members of the Lafiagi Descendants’ Development Union (LADDU), was convened to forge a unified approach to the rising insecurity disrupting social and economic life in the area.

“It is the responsibility of the state government to find durable solutions to these security challenges so that our people can live and work in safety,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated.

He acknowledged the concerns of local communities and noted that security matters of this nature demand strategic planning and consistent implementation to produce lasting results.

According to the governor, the Nigerian Army is set to commence continuous clearance operations in forest belts currently serving as operational bases for the criminal groups. These military efforts will be reinforced by a new corps of trained forest guards, who will help patrol remote areas and prevent the displaced criminals from regrouping elsewhere.

He further disclosed that the state is working closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser and other federal security agencies to eliminate threats across flashpoint areas, particularly in Ifelodun, Edu, and Patigi local government areas.

“No one can downplay the genuine concerns of our people. However, our response must be intelligent, methodical, and designed to ensure enduring peace,” he said.

The operation reflects the state government’s broader commitment to coordinating with national security institutions to confront the security challenges undermining community life and development across Kwara.
