Kidnappers demand N60m ransom to release abducted Maza-Kuka worshippers in Niger

Kidnappers have demanded a N60 million ransom from families of abducted worshippers in Maza-Kuka community, Mashegu local government area of Niger State.

Gunmen had stormed the Maza-Kuka community in the early hours of Monday during the morning prayers and killed about 18 persons and kidnapped many others.

A source who sought anonymity confirmed that 11 persons were abducted including the Chief Imam of the community.

According to the source, “They (kidnappers) called demanding N60 million as ransom before those kidnapped can regain their freedom.”

The source said the community is confused, worrying that the 10 worshippers kidnapped at Friday’s prayer alongside the Chief Imam were still in captivity.

The source said one woman was who is now deceased, was killed because she screamed and tried to run for her life when the attackers arrived.
