Kenneth Okonkwo: voting for Obi in 2027 will benefit Tinubu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Kenneth Okonkwo, has said that any vote cast for the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 general election would ultimately favour President Bola Tinubu.
Okonkwo made the claim during an interview with Symfoni TV on Wednesday, where he stressed that the opposition must unite under a single platform to stand a chance against the incumbent president.
He argued that a divided opposition would only strengthen Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting that splintered votes would work against collective political goals.
According to him, “Either you are working for Tinubu directly or indirectly. When you divide the votes of the coalition and opposition, you are still making Tinubu better placed to win.”
He also criticised Obi’s alleged exit from ADC coalition discussions, accusing him of avoiding internal party competition and primary elections.
Okonkwo further referenced past political discussions involving Senator Victor Umeh, claiming that Obi was once advised to consider a vice-presidential role in a northern alliance, but allegedly declined.
He maintained that political choices ahead of 2027 must be carefully considered, insisting that opposition fragmentation would only strengthen the ruling party’s chances of victory.
