Kano procures 500 computers for state library board

Kano State Government has procured five hundred computers for the state library board in its bid to boost literacy in the state.

Excutive Secretary of the Murtala Muhammed Library Board, Kano State owned Library, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Bichi stated this over the weekend in an interview with Nigerian News Direct Newspaper in Abuja .

Dr. Bichi said the 44 library offices in the state have been renovated and equipped with modern computers, books and other learning aids in other to encourage reading and learning by young people in the state .

He further disclosed that the state library has established Computer Based Test, (CBT) Centers in the 44 mini Libraries in the local government areas of the state , for students sitting for Joint Admissions and Matriculations Boards, JAMB and other external exams, adding that the aim is to encourage mass literacy in the state .

The Excutive Secretary equally disclosed that before the present administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje came into office seven years ago , the Library Board offices across the state were in dilapidated structures housing only shelf without books and other learning or reading materials.

He stressed that governor Ganduje was able to give the library offices a face lift across state, adding that the gesture has geometrically increased the reading and learning culture among the reasonable numbers of young people in the state .

Earlier, the newly appointed Senior Special Assistant to Governor on State Library Board , Honourable Abdullahi Hassan Gwazaye commended Governor providing modern books and computers for the state library.

He said the administration is succeeding in the Library project because of the capability of the head of the board, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Bichi whom he described as a tested academic from the university community who has brought his experience to bear on the library management in the state .

The governor’s aide who promised to support the Board management to ensure prompt attention from the State government to the board how ever decried poor reading culture among some youths in the state despite the efforts being put in place by the present administration in providing modern books and equipments for the learning .

He challenged the parents to live to their responsibilities by sending their children to the library to make use of the modern books to help them learn and acquire more knowledge.
