The Kano State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman Zaura, has called for the support of local government workers across the state to help achieve the administration’s set goals.

The Commissioner made this appeal yesterday when he received the executives of the Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) who paid him a courtesy visit at his office.

Alhaji Tajuddeen Zaura described local government workers as a vital force in local government administration and emphasised the importance of securing their full support for the successful implementation of the current administration’s transformation agenda across the state’s 44 local governments.

He provided detailed information on the various approvals granted by the state government to implement projects worth billions of naira, including the construction of feeder roads, culverts, drainage systems, and the building and renovation of health facilities, among others.

The Commissioner also highlighted that a project monitoring committee has been established to ensure the effective execution of these projects according to the stipulated guidelines. The committee will keep the public informed about the progress of the projects, ensuring transparency, accountability, and prudent use of resources.

He pledged to ensure that all NULGE members are included in the process and encouraged them to adopt more innovative ways to generate revenue, reducing reliance on check-off dues while improving the welfare of their members.

Earlier, the State NULGE President, Comrade Muhammad Ibrahim, explained that the visit was intended to congratulate the Commissioner on his redeployment to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and to introduce the new executives of the union, fostering a symbolic working relationship.

He assured the Commissioner of the full support of local government staff in carrying out his duties diligently, to meet the expectations placed upon him by the Kano State Governor.

Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad also shared plans to undertake a large-scale sensitisation campaign across all 44 local governments, encouraging workers to be present at their duty posts and to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication.

On behalf of all union members, the President expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government for extending the service years of the immediate past President of NULGE, Comrade Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, in recognition of his dedication and commitment to improving local government administration in the state.
