KADIRS reviews half-year revenue, tasks officers on collections

The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has reviewed its 2026 mid-year revenue performance, tasking Area Revenue Officers to intensify efforts toward improving collections in the second half of the year.

The review, presided over by the Acting Executive Chairman of KADIRS, Mr Mohammed Lawal,  brought together senior management officials and 36 Area Revenue Officers (AROs) to assess revenue performance, identify operational gaps and develop strategies for achieving the state’s revenue targets.

‎Reviewing the agency’s half-year performance on Wednesday, the management noted positive results in several revenue streams but expressed concern over significant shortfalls in Direct Assessment (DA) collections across various jurisdictions.

‎Lawal charged the AROs to take full ownership of their respective tax jurisdictions by identifying untapped economic opportunities, strengthening teamwork and addressing operational lapses affecting effective tax administration.

‎He directed all area offices to aggressively re-adopt on-the-spot tax assessment as a key strategy for expanding the tax net and improving Direct Assessment collections.

‎The acting chairman further tasked the officers to develop jurisdiction-specific action plans covering taxpayer education, enumeration, systematic follow-ups, intelligence-driven engagements and structured enforcement.

‎According to him, the measures are aimed at promoting voluntary compliance, expanding the tax base and ensuring that statutory revenue targets are achieved.

‎Lawal urged the AROs to remain proactive and innovative in their respective jurisdictions, stressing the importance of effective monitoring and sustained engagement with taxpayers.

‎He also emphasised the need for teamwork and professionalism in strengthening the agency’s capacity to deliver on its revenue mandate.

‎The meeting also featured an emotional farewell to the retiring Director of ARO Coordination, Mr Ishaku  Mazangona.

‎Mazangona appreciated the management and staff for their support throughout his years of service and urged colleagues to uphold professionalism, teamwork and institutional integrity.

‎Responding, Lawal commended the retiring director for his dedicated service and leadership, describing his contributions as valuable to the development of the agency.

‎He assured staff that management remained committed to their welfare and would continue to build on the contributions and experience of senior personnel in advancing the state’s revenue objectives.

The review, according to KADIRS, was part of efforts to strengthen revenue administration and ensure improved performance across all jurisdictions during the remaining half of the 2026 fiscal year.
