June 12: Tinubu’s ‘renewed hope’ now feels like ‘renewed hopelessness’ – Protest Organisers

…Declare no going back on demonstration
The organisers of the planned nationwide June 12 protest have described the promise of a renewed hope by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has now turned to renewed hopelessness.
The group under the aegis of the Take It Back Movement, Osun State, stated that the present situation in Nigeria has make citizens lost hope in their own country.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, in Osogbo, the group mouth peace, Victor Lijofi, said they will take to the streets in a peaceful protest, as part of the democracy day nationwide protest.
According to him, “The goal of which is to demand democratic running of the Nigerian state with principles such as Good Governance, Protection of Human rights, Free and fair electoral process, and accountability.
“As a matter of fact, the present state of the country is nothing to write home about, as the promise of a renewed hope by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has now turned to renewed hopelessness. Nigeria is now faced with unbearable insecurity and economic hardship that have strangled this nation.
“The present situation of the country is such that Nigerians have now lost hope in their own country, as banditry and terrorism-aided insecurity has destroyed the social and economic life of the people.
“This is unarguably visible in the crises of insecurity, as seen in states like Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Katsina, and Sokoto. The statistics are alarming, while 10,000 people were killed in the last two years, more than 1 million people have been displaced by terrorism and banditry.
“As a matter of fact, the last two years of APC rule have pushed the Nigerian people into monumental poverty, as more Nigerians become poorer and unable to meet up with their daily essential needs. This is because we have leadership, both at the federal and state seats of power, who prioritize their greed over the interest of the country. As a matter of fact, over 100 million people have been pushed below the poverty line due to poor healthcare, education, unemployment, insecurity, and the general poor standard of living.
“In Osun State, the PDP government has been claiming to be running a government with a human face; however, there has not been any difference, as the state experiences the same level of socioeconomic challenge and political crisis that has enveloped the country. As a matter of fact, this government has never completed teachers’ recruitment in the last one year, has allowed the Amotekun corps to harass and oppress the people without caution, refused to respond to hardship brought by housing inefficiency, and joined the APC counterparts to close down the Local Government Secretariat across the state.
“As a matter of fact, we feel so devastated with the present situation of the country, and that is why we have chosen a date with history to demand an end to bad governance on June 12, declared to celebrate Democracy Day.”
