Jimi Lawal’s court judgement: Adebutu remains Ogun PDP governorship candidate- Aide

The Spokesman of Ladi Adebutu and Akinlade Campaign Organization, Afolabi Orekoya has said that his principal, Hon Ladipupo Adebutu remains the sole governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.

Orekoya stated this in a statement issued on Friday while reacting to the judgement of an Abuja Appeal Court said to have reversed the nomination of Hon Adebutu as the 2023 PDP governorship candidate for the state. The suit was said to have been instituted by one of the governorship aspirants, Otunba Jimi Lawal.

He had earlier urged a federal High Court to nullify the election of Hon Ladipupo Adebutu as the PDP governorship candidate of Ogun State alleging that the list of delegates used for the primary were not those that were democratically elected to carry out same assignment.

The Federal High Court had struck out the case but the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja on Friday ordered that the case be heard on merit

Reacting to this judgement, Orekoya said the appellate court has not given any order relating to the nomination of the Peoples Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate of the State but ordered that the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court should reassign the case for accelerated hearing.

He said “For clarity purpose and deep understanding of the matter by our supporters and the general public, Otunba Jimi Lawal approached the appeal court to seek redress in an earlier judgment against him at the federal High Court which was struck out. However, the appeal court found his submission inadequate and only granted a retrial.

“This position of the appellate court has nothing to do with the nomination of Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu as the Candidate of OGUN PDP. On this matter, an appeal to the supreme Court is allowed for both parties.

We call on our members, supporters and the good people of Ogun State to be calm and be assured victory at the end”.
