The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with cattle theft and related crimes across different local government areas of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrests, noting that officers remain committed to tackling livestock theft, which has continued to trouble rural communities.
Police operatives apprehended Usman Yusuf, 25, of Boguwa Fulani Settlement in Malam Madori LGA, after he and an accomplice, Haruna Birau, allegedly conspired to break into the home of Alhaji Adamu Hussaini of Maidaru Village, where they stole a bull valued at N800,000. The animal was recovered, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplice.
In a separate operation along the Baturiya–Hadejia Road, police intercepted two suspects transporting two cows in an unregistered white Volkswagen Golf. The men were identified as 40-year-old Isubu Adamu, alias Banbalasta, from Kokura Fulani Settlement in Kiri Kasamma LGA, and 30-year-old Danladi Maikudi of Kujuru Village in the same LGA. During interrogation, Isubu reportedly admitted to stealing the cows in partnership with one Datti of Lafiyari Fulani Settlement, Guri LGA, who remains at large. One of the cows was later claimed by Alhassan, 35, of Jalmari Village, Guri LGA. Investigations continue.
Police also responded to a report from Maijama’a Sule of Dawae Fulani Camp, Kaugama LGA, whose home had been broken into by thieves who made away with two cows. Swift action by officers from Auyo Division, supported by local vigilantes (Yanbulala), led to the arrest of Umaru Audu of Kuhurdu Fulani Camp, Malam Madori LGA. He was caught along the Kafin-Hausa route in possession of the stolen cattle.
Another case involved the theft of four cows and nine sheep belonging to Hassan Zkitu, 40, of Taura township, while he was returning from Maido Fulani Settlement in Birniwa LGA. Acting promptly, the police arrested 25-year-old Ali Alhaji Buji in connection with the crime and recovered two cows. Efforts are underway to apprehend his accomplice and recover the remaining animals.
In addition to the livestock theft cases, police operatives arrested 23-year-old Amadu Muhammad of Karidu Village, Guri LGA, for allegedly being in possession of vandalised high-tension electric cables. The wires, concealed in two fertiliser bags, were seized at Margadu Village in Guri LGA as the suspect attempted to transport them to Nguru LGA in Yobe State. His accomplice, identified as Hassan Amadu of Kasaga Village, escaped on sighting the officers, but police say efforts are ongoing to bring him to justice.
SP Shiisu assured that investigations into all the cases are continuing, and the command is intensifying its efforts to curb criminal activity across the state.
