In a remarkable breakthrough, the Jigawa State Police Command has arrested two armed robbery suspects in connection with a string of recent motorcycle thefts across the state.

The arrests follow an intensified effort by law enforcement to combat the growing menace of motorcycle theft and ensure the safety of residents.

Magaji Mohammed, a 30-year-old man from Babaldu Town, Magani, was apprehended by police while in possession of a stolen motorcycle.

According to police sources, Mohammed had hired a cyclist, directing him to the Government House’s Unity Pentagon Roundabout.

Upon reaching Dasina Quarters, Mohammed asked the cyclist to stop, whereupon his criminal associate, Suleiman Nasaru, a fugitive believed to be from Ningi LGA, Bauchi State, emerged from the shadows.

Nasaru struck the cyclist on the head with a hammer, rendering him unconscious before fleeing the scene with the motorcycle.

An investigation into the case led to a breakthrough when Idris Abdulaziz, a motorcycle owner from Jigawar Tsada, identified Magaji Mohammed as the perpetrator who had robbed him of his Boxer motorcycle near the Matrix Filling Station along Ibrahim Aliyu Bypass on March 12, 2025.

Speaking with investigators, Abdulaziz confirmed that the suspect was indeed the same individual who had taken his motorcycle after a similar attack.

The police are continuing their investigation and have assured the public that all suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law once the case is fully completed.

In another case, the police in the Fagam Divisional Headquarters received a report from one Idris Ya’u, a 22-year-old motorcycle rider from Gwani village, who had been attacked while transporting a passenger to Haya village.

The suspect, who initially appeared as a regular passenger, ordered Ya’u to stop under the pretense of answering a phone call.

As soon as the cyclist complied, the suspect struck him on the head with a stick, rendering him unconscious before fleeing with the Bajaj red motorcycle, bearing registration number TRN 704 QL Kano.

However, a tip-off from a concerned member of the public led the police to arrest Haruna Alhaji Yusuf, a 30-year-old resident of Kafin Tugga village, in possession of the stolen motorcycle. During questioning, Yusuf admitted to the crime, confirming his involvement in the robbery.

Meanwhile, police officers on a routine patrol along the Jigawa State Legislative Quarters received an emergency call and swiftly responded. Upon arrival, they discovered a 30-year-old cyclist, Yunusa Suleman, unconscious and suspected that his motorcycle had been stolen.

The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention while a coordinated effort with local vigilantes was launched to apprehend the perpetrators.

The Jigawa State Police Command has pledged to maintain its crackdown on crime and safeguard the public, particularly in areas vulnerable to motorcycle theft.
