Jigawa Govt. tasks LGCs to protect grazing lands, cattle routes

The Jigawa government has urged local government councils to protect grazing lands and cattle routes against encroachment, to stem farmers/herders clashes in the state.

Dr Salisu Abdullahi, Chairman, Jigawa State Farmers/Herdsmen Conflict Resolution Committee, said this during a farmiliarisation tour I  Auyo and Kafinhausa Local Government Areas of the state.

He said the call was imperative to augment government efforts to protect lives and property as well as promote peaceful coexistence in the state.

The chairman said the Umar Namadi administration had implemented viable programmes to support farmers and herdsmen, to enable them to engage in agribusinesses for self-reliance as well as fasttrack sustainable social and economic development of the state.

“Therefore, it become necessary for the LGCs, to protect grazing lands, cattle routes and road sides through effective maintenance of 30 meters away from the main roads, to ease grazing and livestock movement.

“The councils should also continue to support local conflict resolution committees to perform their duties effectively,” Abdullahi said.

Also, Binyaminu Kafur, Chairman of Auyo LGC and his Kafinhausa counterpart, Abdullahi Nalayi, reitrated commitment to the protection of grazing lands and cattle routes, respectively.

Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman, the District Head of Bulangu, commended the state government for ensuring peaceful coexistence between farmers and pastoralists.

He pledged support to government policies and programmes, to foster peace and stability in the state.
