JAMB reveals that 21 candidates used fraudulent results for admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reported that 21 candidates with counterfeit IJMB results were recommended for 2023 admissions by various institutions. According to a policy document obtained by our correspondent in Abuja, 12 of these candidates were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

JAMB disclosed that these 21 candidates, who presented fake IJMB results, were not approved for admission. The document criticized the audacity of the recommendations, particularly highlighting ABU, Zaria’s involvement. The recommendations occurred because certificate verification was only conducted after the registration process.

In total, five institutions were implicated in the recommendations. JAMB emphasized that all certificates must be signed by the institution’s head (Vice-Chancellor, Provost, or Rector).

JAMB launched the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform in 2021 to authenticate IJMB and JUPEB results. This initiative followed an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Federal Ministry of Education into irregularities and falsification of results. The ICPC’s statement highlighted the urgent need to address these issues.

JAMB, in a recent bulletin, stated that it is crucial to take decisive action against such misconduct to preserve the integrity of the education sector and examination process. These measures, along with other planned initiatives, aim to protect the sector from the detrimental effects of fraud and ensure the ongoing improvement of educational standards in Nigeria.
