Indomie recall in France not nigerian product – NAFDAC moves to block entry, assures public

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour recently recalled by health authorities in France did not originate from Nigeria and is not registered for sale in the country.

The agency said the recalled product, flagged over undeclared allergens including milk and eggs, poses potential health risks to allergic consumers but has no regulatory or manufacturing link to Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, on December 21, 2025.

The statement reads partly: “The Management of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is aware of the recall of Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour by the French Authority (Rappel Conso of France) on account of the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which may pose significant health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.

In light of this development, NAFDAC has undertaken proactive measures as a responsive regulator by ensuring increased vigilance actions to guard against the possible entry of the recalled product into Nigeria.

Surveillance has been directed across all zones and states, and zonal directors and state coordinators have been mandated to mop up the product if found within their jurisdictions.

The public is hereby informed that the Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour in question is not registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for sale in Nigeria.”

NAFDAC explained that the likelihood of the recalled product entering Nigeria is minimal, as noodles remain on the Federal Government’s import prohibition list, making their importation illegal.

The agency stressed that all Indomie instant noodles and other noodle brands approved for sale in Nigeria are produced locally and only receive NAFDAC registration after undergoing strict regulatory assessment, including full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice standards.

It added that the Ports Inspection Directorate has been placed on heightened alert to prevent any attempt to import the implicated product into the country.

NAFDAC advised consumers to remain vigilant, immediately discard the recalled product if encountered, and report any suspected sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free line, 0800-162-3322.

The agency also urged Nigerians to report any adverse reactions or side effects linked to noodle consumption through its electronic reporting platforms available on its official website.

Reassuring the public, NAFDAC said it remains proactive and committed to safeguarding public health, including protecting Nigerians who travel abroad or purchase food products online, as part of its mandate to ensure the safety of food and regulated products nationwide. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour recently recalled by health authorities in France did not originate from Nigeria and is not registered for sale in the country.
