Independence Day Anniversary: NSCDC deploys 3,500 personnel for security

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)has deployed 3,500 personnel across the Federal Capital Territory to enhance security for Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary on Tuesday.
This extensive deployment aims to ensure public safety, protect critical national assets, and secure both public and private properties during the celebrations.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Samuel Idoko, spokesperson for the NSCDC FCT Command.
Idoko stated, “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has deployed a total of 3,500 personnel to ensure security during Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary celebrations.”
Special units, including the Armed Squad, Special Crack Squad (Operation Adaka-su), Female Strike Force, Anti-Counter Terrorism Squad, and Agro Rangers, have been mobilised to bolster security efforts.
Personnel will be strategically deployed across the FCT, covering all Area Councils and the city centre, to prevent any potential unrest.
The FCT NSCDC Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, stressed the Corps’ vital role in ensuring a peaceful celebration.
He emphasised the unique status of the FCT as the nation’s seat of power and a centre for diplomatic missions, highlighting the necessity for professionalism among NSCDC personnel.
“The government and residents of the FCT expect a lot from the Corps to facilitate a peaceful celebration. The Command must ensure the safety of public and private properties in the Federal Capital.”
“With the FCT as the seat of power and home to diplomatic missions from around the world, the Corps must maintain a high level of professionalism in their duties to prevent any infractions,” Odumosu noted.
He emphasised the importance of adhering to the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures and stressed the need for 24-hour surveillance of critical national assets.
Odumosu also called for collaboration among security agencies to ensure a smooth security operation during the festivities.
