Ilorin Aviation College trains 252 pilots in 10 years-official

The llorin International Aviation College, owned by the Kwara State Government, says it trained 252 pilots between 2010 and 2020.

Alhaji Ahmed Gobir, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated board of the college, made this known on Friday in llorin.

Gobir said that the figure included personnels from the Nigerian Army, Air Force. Navy, Police and the private sector.

The chairman said the college currently had three functional aircrafts.

On the low enrolment of students, Gobir attributed it to high cost of tuition fee of N12 million per student.

He said the N12 million per student might be expensive for individuals and some corporate bodies.

“Several Nigerians cannot afford the N12 million fee charged by the college. This is responsible for low enrolment since the establishment of the college in 2010,’’ he said.

Gobir appealed to the 16 local government chairmen in Kwara to sponsor a student each annually as a way of increasing the internally generated revenue of the college.

He identified the high cost of spare parts for the maintenance of the facilities as a major challenge confronting the institution.
