IGP Egbetokun declares open 2025 Police PPROs Conference

…Orders Spokespersons to ‘Dominate Information Space with Truth’
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., on Monday declared open the 2025 Annual Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, tasking police spokespersons with ensuring strategic communication and combating misinformation effectively.
This was contained in a statement signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The statement reads partly too:“The annual conference is a strategic national engagement and a critical platform for strengthening police-public communication, shaping national narratives constructively, and deepening trust between the Police and citizens.
“Modern-day policing is increasingly defined by public trust, transparency, and the quality of communication between law enforcement agencies and the public, noting that the Public Relations Officers remain central to institutional credibility.
“Information management has become a frontline operational priority. PPROs must dominate the information space with truth, clarity, and professionalism, and be proactive, timely, and strategic in their engagements, rather than reactive.
“Falsehood must not be allowed to thrive in the social space, and PPROs across commands and formations must respond swiftly to misleading content at the point of emergence.”
Speaking at the event held at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja, IGP Egbetokun emphasised the importance of strategic communication in modern policing, urging PPROs to leverage social media to promote transparency and citizen engagement while preventing narrative vacuums that could be exploited by actors spreading false information.
He expressed confidence that the conference would deepen effectiveness, sharpen communication strategies, and enhance the national image of the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP also called for renewed commitment to professionalism, integrity, and excellence, noting that robust public engagement remains key to the future of policing in Nigeria.
