ICPC arraigns TASUED lecturer for demanding sex, money from student
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Dr. Balogun Olaniran, a lecturer at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).
The Head of the Department of Religious Studies at the institution in Ijagun, Ogun State, is accused of demanding sex and money from a female undergraduate.
Olaniran is on trial before Justice Osinuga of the High Court sitting in Ijebu Ode on one count for violating Section 8(1) (a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Sometime between October and November 2021, the defendant allegedly asked for sexual benefit or N100,000 from the student with a promise.
The ICPC told the court that Olaniran offered to alter her academic grades “from fail to pass in courses with codes EDU 311 and EDU 312”.
After pleading “not guilty” when the charge was read, Justice Osinuga admitted him to bail of N500,000 with a surety in like sum.
The judge also ordered that the surety must provide evidence of 3 years of tax clearance and evidence of means.
The senior lecturer will return to court on the adjourned date, May 11, 2023, for the commencement of trial.
