Hotel manager in court for negligent conduct

A hotel manager, Obinna Ejike, on Monday appeared  in a Grade I Area Court, Mpape , Abuja, for allegedly neglecting his duties to secure a guest Inn and allowing some mattresses to be stolen.

The police charged Ejike  with criminal breach of trust and negligence of conduct.

The Prosecution Counsel, M. M Augustine, told the court that in November 2020 a former tenant of Maglo guest inn, Emeka Nwaogu was ejected and the complainant entrusted the Inn to the defendant  who promised to provide five security guards to secure the place.

Augustine said that the defendant failed to do and 12 mattresses and two deep freezers, all valued at N840, 000 were stolen.

The matter, the Augustine said was reported at Mpape Police station by the complainant Chief Mark Okezie of Mararaba, Nassarawa state, Abuja.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 316 and 196 of the Penal Code.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Salihu Ibrahim, admitted the defendant  to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one reliable surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 29 for hearing.
